FRANCE-SENEGAL-ENTERTAINMENT-CULTURE-ACADEMY-SAFRICA-MANDELA
Senegalese sculptor Ousmane Sow (R) talks to French sculptor Jean Cardot in the courtyard of the Academie des Beaux-Arts (French Academy of Fine Arts) during the Sow's official entry ceremony in Paris on December 11, 2013. Sow, who sculpted Nelson Mandela as a goalkeeper extending his hand "to keep corrupt African heads of state at bay", was honoured in his adoptive France. At the ceremony in Paris, Sow -- the first African to be invited to join France's Academy of Fine Arts -- dedicated the honour to "all of Africa, its diaspora and the great man Nelson Mandela".
