Professor Jean-Noel Fabiani, head of the department of cardiovascular surgery and transplant of organs at Georges Pompidou Hospital, attends a press conference at Georges Pompidou European hospital in Paris, on December 21, 2013, after his team made the first human trial of an artificial heart on December 18. The equipment designed to overcome the worldwide shortage of transplant donors was produce by Biomedical firm Carmat, a start-up funded by the European space and defence group EADS.
