PAKISTAN-UNREST-SECTARIAN
Pakistani policemen arrest Sunni Muslim demonstrators during a protest in Islamabad on December 23, 2013, against the arrest of their supporters. Pakistani police arrested supporters of the Taleem Ul Quran mosque in a move to prevent any sectarian violence as Shiite Muslims held religious processions to mark the 40th day of mourning after the anniversary of the death of Imam Hussain. The grandson of the Prophet Mohammed, along with his close relatives and supporters, was killed in the Battle of Karbala in modern-day Iraq in the year 680. Clashes erupted in Rawalpindi, which neighbours Pakistan's capital Islamabad, last month when a procession by Shiite Muslims to mark the most important day of the mourning month of Muharram coincided with a sermon at a nearby Sunni mosque.
