BRAZIL-RUSSIA-ENVIRONMENT-RIGHTS-JUSTICE-GREENPEACE
Greenpeace activist Ana Paula Maciel Alminhana (C), poses with her mother Rosangela (L) while holding a banner reading "Save the Arctic" after arriving at Salgado Filho International Airport in Porto Alegre, Brazil, on December 28, 2013 weeks after she was granted bail by Russia following two months in detention for protesting against oil drilling in the Arctic. Maciel was the first of Greenpeace's campaigners arrested in Russia to walk out of jail. A group of Greenpeace activists had been on board the Dutch-flagged ship Arctic Sunrise, targeting an offshore oil rig owned by the Russian energy giant Gazprom when they were seized in September by Russian security forces. All the 26 foreign activists have now been given exit visas after Russia granted them an amnesty to halt their prosecution for protesting against oil drilling in the Arctic.
