SSUDAN-UNREST
A Sudan's People Liberation Army, SPLA, soldier lies on a hospital bed after he was injured following an attack by rebels while guarding military barracks and an armoury, in Juba, South Sudan, on December 28, 2013. Sudanese rebels allied to ex-vice president Riek Machar sought to retake control of a key town on December 30, the army said, as hopes faded that an upcoming ceasefire deadline will be met in the violence-wracked nation. The conflict, fuelled by an old rivalry between Kiir and Machar, has fanned ethnic differences between Kiir's Dinka group and Machar's Nuer clan in the country, which won independence from Sudan in 2011.
