(FILES) In this combination of pictures created on December 23, 2008, former Bangladesh's last prime minister Khaleda Zia (L) and current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed (R) gesture during their respective political rallies in Dhaka on December 21, 2005 and February 5, 2006. When they joined forces two decades ago, Bangladesh's "Battling Begums" ousted a dictator and ushered in a new era of democracy. But now the toxic rivalry between Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia is threatening to bring the country to the brink once more. As the country goes to polls on January 5, 2014, there were high hopes the Begums would find a last-minute solution to the election time government that every five years is played out to a devastating effect on the streets in the impoverished nation.
