AUSTRALIA-JAPAN-NZEALAND-WHALING-ENVIRONMENT

This handout photo taken on January 6, 2014 and received from Sea Shepherd Australia Ltd on January 7 shows the Japanese factory ship Nisshin Maru (top R) and the ship Yushin Maru (bottom L) crossing north of 60° S, in the Southern Ocean. Anti-whaling activists Sea Shepherd on January 7 said Japan's fleet had been separated and driven out of its Antarctic hunting ground, declaring an early success in its campaign to disrupt the annual hunt. The group said the five-vessel fleet was "in disarray" and currently not hunting whales, with the harpoon ships separated from each other by hundreds of miles and the factory ship Nisshin Maru well outside its kill zone.
