This undated artist's concept depicts NASA's Kepler mission's smallest habitable zone planet. Seen in the foreground is Kepler-62f, a super-Earth-size planet in the habitable zone of a star smaller and cooler than the sun, located about 1,200 light-years from Earth in the constellation Lyra. NASA’s Kepler spacecraft team reported details about five new rocky planets on January 6, 2014 at the American Astronomical Society meeting in Washington,DC. Kepler has helped scientists discover hundreds of exoplanets, and astronomers at the event reported on four years of follow-up observations, as well as the new rocky planets discovered.
