Hindu pilgrims sit near temporary tents before taking a holy dip during an auspicious time at the Gangasagar island, around 160 kms south of Kolkata, on January 14, 2014. Sadhus and Hindu piligrims from all over the country come for the annual Hindu holy festival Gangasagar Mela, with more than four hundred thousand Hindu pilgrims gathering at the Gangasagar to take a 'holy dip' in the ocean at the confluence of the River Ganges and the Bay of Bengal on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, a holy day of the Hindu calendar considered to be of great religious significance in Hindu mythology.
