SENEGAL-HEALTH-DISABILITY-LEPROSY
TO GO WITH AFP STORY BY PAULINE FROISSART
An ageing former leper waits to be seen by a nurse in Mballing, renamed by the authorities as a village of social rehabilitation in Senegal, on January 20 2014. Authorities began grouping leprosy patients in villages such as Mballing by fear of contagion. Since the discovery of a cure for leprosy in the 1980's the leper villages have grown yet are still stigmatised by the image of a leper colony.
