JAPAN-POLITICS-TOKYO-ELECTION
Newly appointed Tokyo Governor Yoichi Masuzoe (R) shakes hands with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe (L) at the National Diet in Tokyo on February 10, 2014 one day after Masuzoe won the Tokyo gubernatorial election. Prime Minister Abe welcomed the election of a conservative governor of Tokyo in a result analysts say will help boost Abe's economic reform agenda and reinforce his drive to restart Japan's nuclear reactors. Backed by Abe's ruling coalition, Masuzoe -- a former television pundit and one-time cabinet minister -- was an easy winner on February 9 ahead of 15 rivals, including a former premier campaigning for an end to atomic power.
