Mayfield slid off the Interstate Wednesday evening then ran out of gas having to abandon his car overnight. Barkley was passing by and offered to help. Hundreds of cars were abandoned overnight around the North Carolina Triangle as motorists encountered icy conditions. Three to eight inches of snow fell yesterday followed by .30 inches of ice.
