BOSNIA-AUSTRIA-HOTEL-LABOUR-STRIKE
Workers of Sarajevo's legendary hotel "Holiday Inn" gather during a protest and strike in the hotel's lobby, on February 14, 2014. Sarajevo's legendary "Holiday Inn" hotel, built for the 1984 Olympic Games and the war reporters' main seat in 1990s, was closed today for the first time due to a strike. A week after Bosnia was shaken with violent protests against poverty and worsening economy, some 140 employees of the hotel went on strike demanding salaries and social taxes to be paid. The symbol of Bosnia's capital was sold in 2003 to Austrian Alpha Baumanagement for 22.8 million euros ($31.2 million). Employees said they had not received three last salaries, while health and social insurance has not been paid for last three years. They accused the owner to have failed to respect the privatisation agreement and the law. AFP PHOTO / ELVIS BARUKCIC
