TO GO WITH AFP STORY
(FILES) - A picture dated 1911 of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk (1881-1938), modern Turkey's founding father and its first President, during the Italo-Turkish war. He led his country to modernization and stability by cultural, social and educational reforms and transformed it in a modern and non-religious country. He declared the new Turkish Republic by the Turkish Grand National Assembly, in 1923.
