BRITAIN-TRANSPORT-CROSSRAIL
An engineer looks through the spokes of Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Victoria as it breaks into the underground station at Whitechapel, marking the three quarter point in the construction of Crossrail in London on April 4, 2014. The boring machine weighs 1000 tonnes and has a cutterhead diameter of 7.1 metres. Tunnelling at Whitechapel is 32 metres below the surface and is taking place to create over 1km of new platforms and pedestrian tunnels that will make up the new Crossrail station. Crossrail trains, will link central London with Maidehead in the west and Shenfield in the east, upon its expected completion in 2018. AFP PHOTO ADRIAN DENNIS
