SWEDEN-ARMAMENT-DEFENCE-CONFLICT-TRADE-FILES
TO GO WITH AFP STORY by TOM SULLIVAN - FILES - A Saab's Gripen fighter jet is pictured on May 5, 2014 at the Saab Gripen factory in Linkoeping, Sweden. The next generation of Gripen E fighters is equipped with state-of-the-art electronic warfare systems and larger weapons bays. Sweden has ordered 60 of the planes and marketed them hard overseas. The rapid growth in exports from Saab and more than 60 other firms, including Bofors and BAE Systems, has led to criticism that the Nordic nation has become more inclined to arm regimes frequently criticised for human rights abuses, including Saudi Arabia, UAE and Pakistan, as demand from western nations has dropped.
