(FILES): This 05 November 1987 file photo shows then US President Ronald Reagan (2L) announcing, at the White House, Washington, DC, that he has selected National Security Advisor Frank Carlucci (2R) to succeed Caspar Weinberger (L) as US Defense Secretary. Also named was Army Lt. General Colin Powell (R) to succeed Carlucci. Reagan, a two-term president who died 05 June 2004 at age 93, remains an icon to Republicans and a hero to those Americans who remember him as the man who brought down the "Evil Empire."
