AUSTRALIA-HEALTH-BIOSENSOR-CORNELL
Scientist Dr Bruce Cornell (R) holds a blood sample (L) alongside the world-s first digital whole blood biosensor, the "SensiDx" (C), a bionanotechnology system beginning clinical evaluation at Sydney-s Royal North Shore Hospital, 07 June 2004. The system, which employs a molecular machine with moving parts that uniquely permits rapid tests of whole blood allowing diagnostic tests to be performed at critical point of care sites - ie within ambulances, emergency departments, operating theatres and intensive care wards, with the biosensor determining the concentration of a drug, hormone or a disease marker in bodily fluoids such as blood, urine or saliva.
