INDONESIA-ELECTION
Indonesian presidential candidates Prabowo Subianto (L) from the Gerindra Party (Great Indonesia Movement) and Joko Widodo (R) from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) stand together after signing an election commission document, a declaration calling for peaceful elections, during a ceremony on June 3, 2014, in Jakarta, on the eve of the opening of the campaign for the July 9 elections. Former general Prabowo Subianto is trying to erase human rights violations from his image as he pursues the presidency in the world's third-largest democracy. As head of the army's special forces in early 1998, Prabowo admitted to ordering abductions, and he was discharged from the military following Suharto's downfall for "exceeding orders".
