KENYA-FLOWERS-TRADE
A woman walks on June 5, 2014 in an alley surrounded by flowers, in the Kenyan capital Nairobi during an international exhibition on flower trade organised by the HPP Exhibitions Holland that brings together sellers and buyers from across the globe. Flower growing has overtaken coffee and tourism as a source of foreign exchange for the East African nation which now ranks third after Equador and Columbia in flower production according to Dick Raamsdonk, the head of HPP Exhibitions. Being the European Union's biggest source of flower imports, Kenya's sales in 2013 of cut flowers abroad were worth 110m USD, or 8 per cent of export earnings, according to the Kenya Flower Council (KFC), and has a 25 per cent market share, beating Colombia and Israel each at 16 per cent.
