INDIA-SOCIETY-NGO-EVICTION
Members of the local charity Kranti, meaning 'revolution' in Hindi, sit together as they wait for their landlord amid packed belongings at their rented residence they have to vacate by day's end, with no new residence to move into thus far, in Mumbai on June 12, 2014. The NGO Kranti, whick works towards the development and education of children of sex workers from Mumbai's infamous red-light district, are finding it hard to find a new address after their current lease for their residence/office recently expired. The NGO has knocked on the doors of around 200 potential landlords with no positive result with a few even refunding the token advance cash deposit they have paid after preliminary talks. Social stigma towards children of sex workers and their mother's profession is the root cause for residential societies and landlords refusing to rent out flats to the NGO, its members said.
