Members of a family work in a field on May 23, 2014 in Bangolo, western Ivory Coast, after a workshop took place in the town to reinforce the capacity of traditional and community chiefs of the Guemon region, intercommunal dialogue and the management of farmland, on the theme: "Traditionnal chiefs of Guemon for the service of national reconciliation and social cohesion". As Ivory Coast strives to put more than a decade of bloody conflict behind it, courts in the agrarian west African nation are overwhelmed by quarrels over land ownership. Rooted in unclear or contradictory legislation, shifting demographics and the legacy of conflict, the disputes are especially intractable in the volatile west, which suffered the worst atrocities of the 2000-11 conflict.
