(FILES) This undated picture shows French socialist leader Jean Jaures. As the conflict became imminent, Jaures tried to organise general strikes in France and Germany in order to prevent war and force the governments to negotiate. He was assassinated in a Parisian café by a French nationalist on July 31, 1914. AFP PHOTO
