FRANCE-COURT-HEALTH-EUTHANASIA-EU-HUMAN-RIGHTS-FILES
(FILES)-- A file photo taken on August 1, 2010 shows the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in the French eastern city of Strasbourg. The ECHR issued an urgent demand on June 24, 2014 to keep French quadriplegic Vincent Lambert on life support, going against the opinion given by a top French court on the same day, the lawyer of Lambert's parents announced. A top French court had given the green light earlier on June 24 to ending life support for Lambert, in a vegetative state for the last six years, in a closely watched ruling that went against the wishes of his parents. The case of Vincent Lambert, who has been a quadriplegic with severe brain damage since a road accident in 2008, has torn his family apart at a time of intense debate in France over euthanasia and the high-profile trial of a doctor accused of poisoning seven terminally ill patients.
