JAPAN-SOCIETY-LIFESTYLE-BURIAL
TO GO WITH Japan-society-lifestyle-burial by Kyoko HASEGAWA
This photo taken on June 4, 2014 shows Ryukai Matsushima, a Buddhist priest whose father pioneered a movement of seeking gravemates, walking past the communal resting place group "Moyainokai" which means "working together", at his temple in Tokyo. Instead of shelling out tens of thousands of dollars on an elaborate tomb, which, according to religious custom must be lovingly tended by descendents, the dearly departed decided to be interred in a collective grave with thousands of others.
