This National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administraion(NOAA) GOES East satellite image obtained July 3, 2014 and taken at 1945Z on July 2, 2014 shows the center of Tropical Storm Arthur, near 29 north latitude, 79 west longitude moving toward the north near 7 mph as it moves up the US East coast. Tropical Storm Arthur strengthened into the first hurricane of the season on Thursday as it moved up the US East Coast just in time to disrupt the July 4 holiday. Arthur is churning off South and North Carolina with sustained winds of 75 mph (120 kph), the National Hurricane Center said in an advisory at 0900 GMT. It is expected to approach the Outer Banks resort region of North Carolina on Thursday night, disrupting vacation plans for Americans celebrating their independence day holiday.
