US-WEATHER-HURRICANE
This National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administraion(NOAA) GOES East satellite image taken at 1445z on July 3, 2014 shows Hurricane Arthur. Residents of the US East Coast fled the advance of Hurricane Arthur, which forecasters said is on track to become a potentially destructive category two storm later Thursday. Forecasters from the National Hurricane Center warned of "large and damaging waves" from the storm, which is expected to make landfall in coastal North Carolina's popular Outer Banks area by afternoon. At 1500 GMT, Arthur was 110 miles (175 kilometers) southwest of Cape Fear, North Carolina, moving toward the northeast at 14 miles (22 kilometers) per hour. Governor Pat McCrory said emergency preparation efforts have been made more complicated by the arrival of thousands of tourists, who have flocked to North Carolina's beaches for the annual summer holiday pilgrimage.
