HONDURAS-MINING-ACCIDENT

Rescuers in Honduras said there were signs of life Thursday from within the mine as they intensified efforts to save them. Using sound detection equipment lowered into the unlicensed mine, "we've received signals, sounds in the part of the mine where the workers are trapped," Moises Alvarado, head of the national emergency authority, told local radio. The cave-in on Wednesday struck the mine at a depth of 80 meters (260 feet) near the southern town of El Corpus.
