A man and a dog walk in front of a destroyed psychiatric hospital in the village of Semyonovka, near the eastern Ukrainian city of Slavyansk, on July 9, 2014, were occured fierce battles between Ukrainian forces and pro-Russian militants. Rebel strongholds in eastern Ukraine braced for more fighting on July 9 as European leaders prepared to pile new pressure on President Petro Poroshenko for a truce with pro-Russian separatists. Government forces hoisted the Ukrainian flag on July 5 over the pro-Russian rebels' main stronghold of Slavyansk after flushing them out of the eastern industrial city, the defence minister said.
