UKRAINE-RUSSIA-POLITICS-CRISIS
A Ukrainian government soldier stands as another looks through binoculars near an armoured vehicle some 20km south of Donetsk, eastern Ukraine, on July 10, 2014. Ukraine warned on July 10 that its assault on pro-Russian insurgents may last another month and rejected calls for a ceasefire as it moved tanks within striking distance of the rebels' two remaining strongholds. Ukrainian forces have massed tanks and armoured vehicles around 20 kilometres (12 miles) south of the rebel-held city of Donetsk, where most of the militias have retreated. A column of vehicles stretching a kilometre and a half (one mile) arrived on July 9 without facing any resistance, Ukrainian soldiers said, as part of a campaign to surround Donetsk and the neighbouring city of Lugansk, also controlled by pro-Russian separatists.
