FRANCE-MARTINIQUE-CHIKUNGUNYA-EPIDEMIC
Firemen are seen on the roof of the hospital of Le Lamentin, a city of the French overseas department of Martinique, during a mosquito clearing operation to prevent the propagation of the chikungunya virus, on July 12, 2014. France's health minister warned on July 10, 2014 of a "major epidemic" in the Antilles and French Guiana after 33 deaths and "about 5,000 new cases every month" were reported in connection with the chikungunya virus. The virus -- rarely fatal, but nevertheless serious -- sparks high fevers and severe joint aches, as well as headaches, nausea and extreme fatigue. AFP PHOTO / NICOLAS DERNE
