GERMANY-SWITZERLAND-NETHERLANDS-FRANCE-SCIENCE-RHINE
Picture taken on June 27, 2014 shows Andreas Fath, Professor of Physical and Analytical Chemistry at the Furtwangen University and a specialist in ecological engineering, holding up a water sample he took from the river Rhine near Kehl, southern Germany. Fath plans to swim through the Rhine from its source in Switzerland to the estuary in the Netherlands in a project called “Rheines Wasser”. During his swim starting on July 28, 2014 and planned to end on August 24, 2014, Fath will take water samples from the Rhine all along the 1,231 kilometres of the river to test the water quality, but also to raise awareness for the importance of water as a resource and the need for increased water protection.
