LITHUANIA-VOTE-VALDAS ADAMKUS
Former Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus and his wife Alma Adamkiene hold the city coat of arms in Vilnius - Forum Palace, late 27 June 2004 after Adamkus made a dramatic political comeback by defeating ex-Prime Minister Kazimira Prunskiene in Lithuania-s presidential elections. The early elections were called to replace former president Rolandas Paksas who ousted Adamkus in January 2003, only to be impeached on April 6 for shady dealings with a Russian businessman in violation of the constitution.
