INDIA-CRIME-FILES

(FILES) In this photograph taken on April 25, 2006, Indian prisoner Sher Singh Rana (C), the alleged killer of India's famous "bandit queen", is surrounded by policemen as he is displayed before media representatives in New Delhi. An Indian court on August 14, 2014 has sentenced the man convicted of killing India's "bandit queen" Phoolan Devi to life imprisonment, thirteen years after she was gunned down in broad daylight. Devi, who transformed herself from an illiterate villager to a lawmaker, was shot by three masked men outside her home in central New Delhi in 2001 as she returned for lunch.
