Reproduction of the first news dispatch of the Agence Française de Presse, (which soon became the Agence France-Presse) reading "To all free newspapers of Paris" and released on August 20, 1944 from the Agence Française de Presse's headquarters in Paris. On August 20, 1944, as Allied forces moved towards Paris, eight journalists comprised a group within the French Resistance and took over offices of the FIO (French Information Office), the French news agency controlled by the Vichy government during the German occupation.
