A Palestinian man sits near his partially destroyed home and next to a fire that he and a neighbor started in Shejaiya on August 27, 2014. Shejaiya was one of the hardest hit neighborhoods in fighting between Hamas militants and Israel during 50 days of fighting. The fire was set by the home owners in an effort to keep mosquitoes away from their shattered homes. Israel and Palestinians both boasted of victory in the Gaza war but analysts say Hamas received only promises while the conflict aggravated divisions in the Israeli leadership.
