ALGERIA-MALI- CONFLICT-PEACE-DIPLOMACY
Members from the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) attend the opening of peace talks on September 1, 2014 in Algiers between the Malian government and armed rebels, which are the second round of negotiations since July aimed at clinching a lasting peace agreement. The Bamako government and six rebel groups, mostly Tuareg but also including Arab organisations, are seeking to resolve a decades-old conflict that created a power vacuum in the desert north that was exploited by Al-Qaeda.
