IRAQ-RELIGION-SHIITE
Iraqi Shiite Turkmen worship at a holy site in Amerli on September 3, 2014, that is dedicated to Hasan ibn Ali the second of the twelve Shiite Imams. Islamic-State (IS) militants launched a lightning offencive in the north in June, sweeping through much of the Sunni Arab heartland north and west of Baghdad before turning on Christian and Yazidi areas.
