"Bird on the girl's shoulder symbolizes a bond between us and the deceased victims" reads a plaque on the floor at the memorial explaining the controversial Comfort Women Statue in Glendale, California on September 9, 2014, a day after reports that opponents of the statue have appealed the August decision by U.S District Judge Percy Anderson against removing the memorial dedicated to women who were coerced into sexual slavery during World War II by Japan, ruling the 1,100-pound memorial did not cause harm to the plaintiffs nor break any laws.
