Nobel Committee for Physics member Olle Inganas (R) and (L-R) Nobel Committee for Physics chairman Per Delsing, Staffan Normark, Permanent Secretary of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and Nobel Committee for Physics member Anne L'Huillier give a press conference to announce the winners of the 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics on October 7, 2014 at the Royal Swedish Academy of Science in Stockholm, Sweden. Three Japanese-born researchers -- Isamu Akasaki, Hiroshi Amano and Shuji Nakamura, who is currently based in the US -- won the Nobel Prize for Physics for inventing the LED lamp, a boon in the fight against global warming and aiding people in poverty.
