This October 7, 2014 NASA satellite image shows Typhoon Vongfong in the Pacific. Typhoon Vongfong is rapidly Intensifying and is a dangerous threat to Japan this weekend. As of mid-afternoon local time Tuesday, the eye of Vongfong was about 760 miles (1223km) southeast of Kadena Air Base on Okinawa, moving west-northwest at 15 mph (24km/h). Maximum sustained winds had increased to an estimated 140 mph, (225km/h the equivalent of a Category 4 hurricane, according to the US military's Joint Typhoon Warning Center.
