BURKINA-CRISIS-ARMY-ECOWAS
Burkina Faso's Lieutenant-Colonel Isaac Zida (C, L) shakes hands with Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan (3rdR) flanked by UN Secretary General representative for West Africa Ibn Mohamed Chambas (L), Togo's former prime minister and African Union's special envoy to Burkina Faso Edem Kodjo (2ndL), French Ambassador Gilles Thibault (2ndR) and US Ambassador Tulinabo S. Mushingi (R) during a welcoming ceremony at Ouagadougou airport on November 5, 2014. Three west African leaders arrived in Burkina Faso on November 5 to pressure the country's army into keeping its promise of a speedy handover of power to a civilian government following the fall of president Blaise Compaore. The presidents of Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal flew into Ouagadougou to press the issue, after Canada suspended its aid to the impoverished West African nation and other nations considered similar moves.
