CHINA-APEC-SUMMIT

A city official (L) takes a photo of a leaflet posted claiming the government has ignored their claims for 24 years, after someone spraypainted the Chinese character meaning "injustice" (in red, at right) along a street leading to the China National Convention Centre (CNCC) in Beijing on November 7, 2014, after security was ramped up for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit being held at the CNCC. China does not tolerate organised protest at international summits, but a few citizens briefly evaded the tight security around the APEC venue to voice their anger at the government. Three people who said they had travelled from Shanxi province in the north were questioned by police outside the venue, with a security official accusing them of sticking a poster to a lamppost which described a lack of government response to a 24-year battle against injustice. One of the three was seen by AFP being led into a police van. Top leaders and ministers of the 21-member APEC grouping are meeting in Beijing from November 7 to 11. AFP PHOTO / TOM HANCOCK
