FRANCE-HISTORY-WWI-CEREMONY

France's President Francois Hollande attends a ceremony to inaugurate the new war memorial at Notre-Dame-de-Lorette, an elliptical ring engraved with the names of the 580,000 men who died in northern France during the First World War, in Ablain-Saint-Nazaire, northern France, on November 11, 2014, as part of the Armistice Day ceremonies marking the 96th anniversary of the end of World War I. The memorial, paying respect to fighters of all nationalities who perished in this land between 1914 and 1918, is on the edge of the Notre-Dame de Lorette French war cemetery, itself containing the bodies of over 40,000 soldiers. The year 2014 marks the centennial commemoration for the soldiers who fought in the First World War (WWI). AFP PHOTO / POOL / Pascal Rossignol
