A fire destroyed one of Spain's largest meat producing plants and created a plume of black smoke that forced the closure of a highway on November 16. The destruction of the Campofrio factory, a major source of employment in the area, leaves its 1,000 workers with an uncertain future, although the company said today it planned to open a new factory in 2016.
