A journalist opens the door of a replica of Wilhelm Reich’s ‘orgone accumulator’ during a press preview of ‘The Institute of Sexology’ exhibition at The Wellcome Trust in London on November 19, 2014. The “orgone accumulator” was a silver lined wooden box believed by its inventor Wilhelm Reich to fill those who sat in it with libidinous and life giving energy. It was made famous as the orgasmatron by Woody Allen. Visitors can join the list of famous people from William Burroughs to Einstein who tried the box, and sit in an accumulator specially constructed for the exhibition. The exhibition features over 200 objects spanning art, rare archival material, erotica, film, photography, medical artefacts and ethnography in a its study of sex.
