Lady Mary Soames, the last surviving child of Britain's World War II prime minister Winston Churchill, died at the age of 91 on May 31, 2014. Lady Soames had a distinguished career in public life, served in the ATS in the Second World War from 1941-1946, was a successful author, patron to many charities and chaired the Royal National Theatre; public service for which she was knighted.
