NETHERLANDS-MIGRATION-FISH-RIVER

Representative of the province of Friesland Johannes Kramer (L) and director of the Waddenvereniging (Mud Flats Foundation) Arjan Berkhuysen (R) hold an iron fish during the symbolic start of the creation of a "fish migration river" in Kornwerderzand on November 21, 2014. A six-kilometre-long twisted river will be created in the Afsluitdijk, the barrier between the North Sea and IJsselmeer, to allow fish to swim more easily from the sweet water of IJsselmeer and salt water of the North Sea and vice versa. Due to the length of the river the fish will slowly get used to the transition of the difference in water. AFP PHOTO/ANP/CATRINUS VAN DER VEEN
