GUATEMALA-HEALTH-MOSQUITO-DENGUE-CHIKUNGUNYA
Soldiers take part in a campaign to eliminate potencial breeding sites of Aedes aegypty mosquitoes which transmit dengue and chikungunya, in Amatitlan, 33 km south of Guatemala City, on November 24, 2014. Dengue causes debilitating flu-like symptoms, headaches, rashes and severe muscle and joint pains and in serious cases, internal bleeding, organ damage and death can occur. Endemic to warm, humid zones, dengue's range is thought to be spreading as infected travellers transport the virus and -- scientists believe -- as global warming expands the Aedes aegypti's range. The disease, for which there is no vaccine, kills up to 20,000 annually worldwide, and 40 percent of the world's population live in dengue-risk areas. AFP PHOTO / Johan ORDONEZ
