Protesters clash with police during a demonstration against Italy Prime Minister Matteo Renzi's "Jobs Act" labour reform on December 3, 2014 in Rome. Labour Minister Giuliano Poletti said today that the government will put its controversial Jobs Act labour reform bill to a confidence vote in the Senate. The bill, which, among other things, changes Article 18 of the 1970 Workers Statute protecting people from unfair dismissal, is fiercely contested by a minority within Premier Matteo Renzi's centre-left Democratic Party (PD) and by two of Italy's three big trade-unions confederations, the CGIL and UIL.
